The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is an initiative of the Bihar government to extend support to women who wish to initiate small employment activities. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 26, 2025. The scheme aims at empowering women financially through capital support and by encouraging localised employment. It also seeks to check migration by increasing opportunities within the state.
Under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, one woman in each family will get Rs 10,000 as the first instalment directly into her bank account through direct benefit transfer (DBT). Women showing satisfactory progress in the chosen work after six months can get additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh under the scheme.
About 7.50 million beneficiaries are expected to be covered during the first phase. In rural areas, the scheme is being implemented through the Rural Development Department, while in urban regions, the Urban Development Department is facilitating it. The application system for the schemes is available both online and offline.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Bihar and in the age group of 18-60 years. Married women are given preference. The applicants have to be associated with a self-help group (SHG), with a bank account linked with Aadhaar. Applications from women who have availed of benefits under other self-employment schemes will not be considered.
The required documents include Aadhaar, bank passbook, resident certificate, age proof, income certificate, passport photograph, and an education certificate if required. A business or employment proposal can also be added if available.
Applicants can apply online by registering on the official portal and submitting the required details after verification through an OTP. Application status updates can be viewed using the Aadhaar or application number. Offline applications can be submitted through village organisations or SHGs.
After the application is received, the documents are verified. If cleared, the first instalment normally gets credited within 7-15 days from the date of application. Starting from September 2025, around 7.50 million women have already received the first instalment. The government has sanctioned more than 15 million applications and has targeted sending the amount to the bank accounts of all eligible women by December 2025.
The second instalment of up to Rs 2 lakh will be provided after six months, depending on the success and stability of the employment activities undertaken. Only those showing satisfactory progress during the review period will be qualified for this.
To check the status of the first instalment, beneficiaries can visit the official portal (mmry.brlps.in), click either on ‘the ‘Form Status’ or ‘Beneficiary Status option, and enter the Aadhaar or application number. Upon verification, they will be able to see whether the amount has been received or not.
