The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced MyUPI, an AI-based service for queries related to UPI payments. The service is part of NPCI’s UPI Help platform and covers transaction-related queries, mandates, and other UPI features.
MyUPI is available through the UPI Help website and has also been added to some bank and third-party UPI applications. The service comes as NPCI’s new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) rules for certain UPI merchant transactions take effect from October 15.
New MDR Rules For UPI Transactions
NPCI has introduced a revised MDR framework for certain person-to-merchant (P2M) UPI transactions. Under the new framework, a 0.4 per cent MDR will apply to specified P2M transactions above Rs 2000 from October 15, 2026.
The MDR will have a maximum limit of Rs 300 for an eligible transaction. It is a charge within the payment system and is not a direct fee collected from customers when they make UPI payments.
The Finance Ministry has also clarified that UPI transactions up to Rs 2000 and transactions between individuals will not attract the new MDR. Certain transactions involving small merchants are also covered under the existing zero-MDR framework.
According to the government, around 96 per cent of P2M UPI transactions will not be covered by the new MDR framework.
What Is MyUPI
MyUPI is a conversational service through which users can ask questions about UPI and get information on payment-related rules and features.
The service is available through the UPI Help website. It can also be accessed through some UPI applications, although its location differs across apps. On BHIM, the UPI Help facility is available on the home screen. Other UPI apps may place it under their settings or help sections.
Users can enter questions about UPI transactions, mandates, and other payment-related features. The responses are based on information available through NPCI’s UPI support system.
The service is now also being referenced in discussions around the revised MDR rules, where questions have emerged about the Rs 2000 threshold, eligible merchant payments, and the transactions that are outside the new MDR framework.
NPCI has also issued information on the revised MDR rules, including details on eligible transactions and how the MDR will be distributed among participants in the payment system.
