Sensex, Nifty, Stock Market: On June 2, the first trading day of the month, the BSE Sensex ended at 81,373.75, down by 77.26 points, or 0.09 per cent. The Nifty 50 index also ended at 24,716.60, down by 34.1 points or 0.14 per cent. The headline indices have extended gains for the second straight day on June 2.

Hero MotoCorp, HDFC Life and JSW Steel Lead Losers

Hero MotoCorp, HDFC Life Insurance Company and JSW Steel came out as top drags in today's trade as they closed lower by as much as 2.05 per cent on the NSE. On the other hand, the shares of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones, Mahindra & Mahindra and Eternal Ltd gained the most as they closed higher by up to 2.2 per cent. As many as 29 constituents of the headline index ended in the red, and 21 closed in the green on June 2.

Broader Market Indices End In Green

The Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 closed higher by up to 1.19 per cent on the NSE. The India VIX ended the session 6.71 per cent higher, indicating increased volatility. The Nifty Realty, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Auto closed higher by up to 2.31 per cent, gaining the most among the sectoral pack.

Global Markets on June 2

US markets witnessed declines as key indices, the Dow Jones Futures, S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite, closed lower by 0.4 per cent, 0.01 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively. At the time of writing, the CAC 40, the FTSE 100 and the DAX Performance Index traded lower by as much as 0.77 per cent. Asian markets also witnessed declines as the Hang Seng, Nikkei 225 and the Shanghai Composite traded lower by as much as 1.32 per cent.

Two New D-Street Debuts

Aegis Vopak Terminals Ltd shares debuted on the stock markets, listing at Rs 220 apiece on the NSE and BSE at a discount of 6.38 per cent to its IPO price of Rs 235 per share. Shares of Leela Hotels' share price made their debut at Rs 406 per share on the NSE at a discount of 6.67 per cent over the issue price of Rs 435 per share.

Market Cues

The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee will begin their meeting on June 4. The MPC will announce a decision regarding a possible third consecutive rate cut on June 6.
