Indian stock market investors breathed a sigh of relief as the headline indices closed in the green ahead of Donald Trump’s trade tariff announcement. The 30-share Sensex ended higher by 592.93 points or 0.78 per cent at 76,617.44 levels. The Nifty50 also closed higher by 166.65 points or 0.72 per cent at 23,332.35 levels.
Top Gainers And Losers On April 2
As many as 33 constituents of the Nifty50 index closed in the green and 16 constituents closed in the red, while one remained unchanged. Tata Consumer, Zomato, Titan, IndusInd Bank and Tech Mahindra shares emerged as top-gainers among Nifty stocks, closing higher by up to 6.91 per cent on the NSE. On the other hand shares of Bharat Electronics Ltd, Nestle India, Ultratech Cement Co and Bajaj Finserv emerged as the top losers, closing lower by as much as 3.27 per cent.

All Major Sectoral Indices Close In Green
All sectoral indices closed in the green ahead of Trump’s iconic tariff announcement. Notably the Nifty Realty index and the Nifty Bank index gained the most at the close, ending higher by up to 3.61 per cent. Broader market indices also recovered on April 2 as the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 closed higher by up to 1.61 per cent. Notably, the India VIX closed lower by 0.43 per cent indicating lower volatility in the upcoming sessions.
European And Asian Indices Close Lower
Major US indices closed in the green with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq closing higher by up to 0.87 per cent. European markets closed in the red with FTSE 100, CAC 40 and DAX Performance Index ending lower by as much as 1.41 per cent ahead of the tariff announcements. Asian indices such as the Shanghai Composite and the Nikkei 225 closed in the green up by as much as 0.28 per cent, while the Hang Seng declined 0.02 per cent at the close.

Primary Market Action On April 2
Shri Ahimsa Naturals and ATC Energies System shares made their debut on the NSE SME platform. Shri Ahimsa Naturals shares are listed with a premium of 17 per cent over the issue price of Rs 140 apiece, on the other hand, shares of ATC Energies System are listed with a discount of over 9 per cent at Rs 107 apiece.

US President Donald Trump is set to announce the tariffs in the Rose Garden of the White House at 04:00 pm Washington time (1:30 am IST). Markets across the globe will factor in the impact of the tariffs on April 3.
