Stock Market News: The Sensex and Nifty closed lower for the third straight day on July 11, 2025. The Sensex closed at 82,500.47, shedding 689.81 points or 0.83 per cent. The Nifty 50 index also closed at 25,149.85, down by 205.4 points or 0.81 per cent. The indices came under pressure amid an escalation in trade tensions after the US imposed new tariffs on Canada. Additionally, US President Donald Trump also announced that he will make a ‘major’ statement on Russia. It is expected that the US might impose further sanctions on Russia and other countries that trade with Moscow.

TCS, Mahindra & Mahindra Emerge As Top Drags
Shares of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Mahindra & Mahindra led the losers among Nifty 50 stocks as they closed lower by up to 3.47 per cent. Other major losers include Hero Motocorp and Wipro, which closed lower by 2.74 per cent and 2.62 per cent, respectively. Amid the selloffs, shares of Hindustan Unilever, SBI Life Insurance and Sun Pharmaceutical emerged as top gainers, finishing the session higher by up to 4.63 per cent. The benchmark Nifty saw 11 advances and 39 declines on July 11.

Nifty FMCG and Nifty Pharma Buck The Trend
The Nifty FMCG and the Nifty Pharma index bucked the trend on July 11 to close in the green. The Nifty FMCG and Nifty Pharma finished the session higher by 0.51 per cent and 0.68 per cent, respectively. Conversely, the Nifty IT and the Nifty Auto ended in the red and came out as top losers among the sectoral pack, finishing the session lower by 1.77 per cent and 1.78 per cent, respectively. The broader market indices also fell on July 11 with the Nifty MidCap 100 and the Nifty SmallCap 100 closing 0.88 per cent and 1.02 per cent lower, respectively.

Global Markets on July 11
Asian indices closed the session mixed as the Nikkei 225 finished 0.19 per cent lower and the KOSPI ended 0.23 per cent lower. On the other hand, the Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite closed the session lower by 0.46 per cent and 0.01 per cent, respectively. The US markets also closed the session higher on July 10 with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and the Nasdaq gaining up to 0.43 per cent at the close.
