Stock Market News: Headline indices extended a losing streak on September 22, 2025. The 30-share Sensex extended losses for the second straight day closing lower by 466.26 points or 0.56 per cent at 82,159.97 and the Nifty 50 finished at 25,202.35 down by 124.7 points or 0.49 per cent. The declines came amid concerns regarding the $1,00,000 H-1B visa fee for new applicants. The fee hike led to the dampening of investor sentiments in export-focused sectors.
Top Losers On September 22
Shares of IT majors led the declines among Nifty 50 stocks as shares of Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys finished the session lower by as much as 3 per cent. On the other hand Nifty 50 gainers included shares of Adani Group company, Adani Enterprises Ltd which extended gains post Sebi’s clean chit to the conglomerate in the Hindenburg case. Shares of Adani Enterprises led the gainers among Nifty 50 stocks closing higher by 3.98 per cent. Other major gainers included Eternal, Bajaj Finance and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd which finished the session higher by 1.6 per cent.
Nifty IT and Nifty Pharma Decline
The Nifty IT and the Nifty Pharma indices witnessed pressure on September 22 closing lower by 2.95 per cent and 1.41 per cent, respectively. The export-focused indices led the losers among sectoral indices. The broader market indices such as the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 finished the session with losses of 0.67 per cent and 1.17 per cent respectively.
Global Markets On September 22
Major Asian indices closed the session with gains as the Nikkei 225, KOSPI and the Shanghai Composite finished lower by 1.07 per cent, 0.67 per cent and 0.22 per cent respectively. However, the Hang Seng index closed with a decline of 0.66 per cent.
Primary Market Action
On the SME board, Prime Cable Industries IPO and Solvex Edibles IPO opened for subscription today. On the mainboard Ganesh Consumer Products IPO and Atlanta Electricals IPO opened for bidding. The public issues of JD Cables Ltd and Ivalue Infosolutions Ltd closed for subscription on September 22.
Market Outlook
D-street is expected to react to fresh developments on the GST front and on any new developments related to the H-1B Visa fee. Additionally, price changes in commodities such as crude oil and gold along with inflows and outflows by institutional investors are expected to impact D-Street in upcoming trade.
