The Haryana government has increased the minimum wage for unskilled and semi-skilled workers by 35 per cent. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the hike will benefit lakhs of people by improving their standard of living.

The hike proposal was approved by the Haryana cabinet after an expert committee recommended the increase in wages at the time of the state budget. The recommendations are approved now, and to become effective retrospectively, as per the PTI report.

The equal increment has been announced for all categories of workers, including unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled.

According to Saini, the welfare and social security measures are the state’s top priority, and the increase in minimum wages is a step in this direction. This is to improve the financial condition of the beneficiaries and their overall well-being.

Vij said that the workers are the backbone of the economy and their welfare and empowerment are crucial for the overall economic development, and added that more steps will be taken for the workers in the future to improve their social security, working conditions, and healthcare facilities.

The new wages will take effect from April 1, 2026. According to the government, this move is in alignment with the new labour codes
