What Is the Ladli Behna Yojana?
The Ladli Behna Yojana is a scheme that is designed to offer monthly assistance to support women in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It follows a direct benefit transfer (DBT) approach, which directly transfers the assistance amount into the accounts of the registered beneficiaries. The primary objective is to provide security to women and reduce their dependency. Under this scheme, the eligible women will receive a sum between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 depending on their financial categories.
Originally, Ladli Behna Yojana was launched by the former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in 2023. It quickly became one of the most participated schemes in the state. Millions of women enrolled from rural and urban regions. The vision behind this was to enhance financial independence among women.
The eligibility for this is that women must be local residents of Madhya Pradesh. They can be single, married, widowed, divorced, or even abandoned; the only clause is that their family's annual income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.
Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav acknowledged the public on Saturday, reminding them of their commitment towards women’s welfare as they released the 33rd instalment ahead of Mahashivratri. He spoke at the public gathering at PAndhanan in Khandwa district, announcing that as of now, nearly Rs 1,836 crore has been released into the bank accounts of more than 1.25 women beneficiaries. He went on to emphasise that the state government has no shortage of funds when it comes to the welfare and goodwill of women.
Another detail he shared included that since the inception of the scheme, the state has released nearly Rs 52,304 crores, making it one of the largest and most successful schemes.
The beneficiaries can check the status of the instalment via SMS from the bank once the amount is credited, just like before. They can also confirm the payment status through the official Ladli Behna portal.
Ultimately, the policy prioritises a society where women are financially secure and empowered.
