Punjab offers Rs 10 lakh cashless health cover
Universal scheme covers all residents, no income bar
Paperless treatment across government and private hospitals
Bhagwat Mann, the Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, has approved the launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, a universal, paperless health insurance scheme set to roll out in January 2026, offering cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh per family across government and private hospitals, according to a recent report by the Hindustan Times.
He has given the final nod for the launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. Mann has given his approval for the launch of this flagship health insurance scheme, which is set to roll out in January 2026. This is a health coverage scheme to reinvent healthcare in the state. This announcement comes after months of planning and incremental enhancements to Punjab’s public health insurance. This scheme promises to provide cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh per family annually in government and private hospitals across the state.
What Is Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana?
Mann underlined that this initiative is aimed at eliminating out-of-pocket expenditure, which is an issue of financial distress during serious illness. Under the scheme, all residents of Punjab will be entitled to comprehensive, cashless healthcare services free of cost, irrespective of income level, employment status, or whether they are government employees.
The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana significantly expands the scope of existing health insurance cover. Before, many beneficiaries were covered under the state’s earlier model, which offered up to Rs 5 lakh per family. The increase in this amount is a transformative step that aligns with the state's effort with broader goals of equitable and accessible healthcare for people from all sections of society.
Features Of The Scheme
This scheme is designed in such a way that it ensures beneficiaries can access services across a wide network, which includes both government hospitals and private hospitals. This broadens the choice patients have and the health system's capacity. Typical benefits include serious illnesses, surgeries, intensive care unit (ICU) and critical care, diagnostics, medicines, and pre- and post-hospitalisation care.
One of the main features of this Yojana is that it is cashless and paperless. Patients will be able to avail the benefits just by producing their basic identity documents, such as Aadhaar, voter ID, or passport, during registration.
The CM emphasised that this initiative will improve accessibility to healthcare in urban and rural areas. The reduction of the burden of excessive medical expenses that often force families to take loans or sell their assets will not be a common sight anymore. This scheme will be supported by a digital grievance platform that helps users get timely support.
As Punjab prepares for this launch in January, the government continues to work on awareness campaigns and making sure the platform is launched without any hiccups to ensure that the policy is functional and impactful.
