State Bank of India on Friday said the planned nationwide strike by the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF), scheduled for May 25 and 26, has been deferred. The decision ensures that no strike will take place on the proposed dates.

In a statement issued to customers on Friday, State Bank of India provided an official clarification on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the proposed nationwide strike, stating, “This is to advise our esteemed customers that the proposed strike by the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF) on 25th and 26th May 2026 has been deferred.”

In an advisory, SBI also clarified, “All our branches will function normally and provide all regular banking services.” The bank confirmed that all branches across the country will remain open and continue to function as usual, with normal banking operations and customer services available without any

The federation had raised demands for the proposed strike, including appointment of the Workmen’s Employee Director from a union-recommended panel, recruitment across clerical and support categories, and addressing the shortage of armed guards at branches due to retirements and promotions. Also, the union has demanded changes regarding the option to choose pension fund managers under the National Pension System (NPS).

Sudip Dutta, SBI Staff Association, Bengal Circle secretary, told PTI that the meeting with the management was positive and saw progress on several demands raised by the federation.

In a separate communication to its members, All India SBI Staff Federation general secretary L Chandrasekhar said that the meeting held between the management and the federation at the Corporate Centre in Mumbai concluded on a positive note. He further added, “In view of the progress achieved during the discussions, the proposed strike stands deferred.”

The deferment of the proposed strike comes after discussions between the management and the federation, with both sides indicating progress on key issues raised by the union. With the matter currently resolved for now, banking services across the country are expected to remain unaffected, ensuring normal operations for customers during the period.disruption during the said period.
