Stung by the spate of information circulating in the social media and other platforms, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has said that it had not capped withdrawal limits at Rs 3,000 for its depositors and termed such information as incorrect.

Countering the slew of information doing the rounds, PNB in a public notice, confirmed that it had not been asked by either the Government or the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to make payment of the fraudulent amount to other banks.

The bank was recently hit by a 11,400 crore scam, involving diamond trader Nirav Modi and his associates, according to the bank.

PNB confirmed that it had not engaged the services of PricewaterhouseCoopers to investigate the alleged fraud.

Further, the bank stated, it had not transferred 18,000 employees. Instead, the number stood at 1,415 following the bank’s extant transfer policy and did not, in any manner, affect customer service at its branches. The bank reiterated that it was business as usual at PNB and banking operations were running smoothly.

Finally, PNB clarified that Virat Kohli, India’s cricket captain, continued to be its brand ambassador and added that all steps were being taken to protect the financial interests of lenders and stakeholders, besides honouring bonafide commitment.
