The Wednesday market ended short for both the indices as the Sensex and the Nifty shed 272.93 points or 0.77 per cent and 97.75 points or 0.91 per cent, respectively. At the end of the day's trading, the Sensex and the Nifty closed at 35,217.11 and 10,671.40, respectively.

At the closing of the stock market, the Indian Rupee rallied 0.3650 paise or 0.53 per cent to stand at Rs. 68.6050 over the US dollar.

As per the BSE conclusions, HDFC Bank, Coal India, TCS and Sun Pharma were ruling the market whereas ICICI Bank, L&T, Tata Motors, SBI and Adani Ports ended up with losses.

At the NSE, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Infratel and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories were the top gainers while BPCL, HPCL and IOC emerged as the major losers.

The S&P BSE Mid Cap index saw a loss in the share price by 235.36 points or 1.50 per cent to close at 15,425.95 and Small Cap index lost 325.67 points or two per cent to shut at 15,971.21, at the time of writing the report.

The global market closing concluded at gaining as well as losing terms in which FTSE 100, DAX and CAC40 secured 0.36 per cent, 0.24 per cent and 0.24 per cent, respectively. Nikkei, Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite lost 0.31 per cent, 1.82 per cent and 1.10 per cent, respectively, at the time of filing the report.

In the commodities sector, the price of gold saw a hike of Rs 116 or 0.38 per cent to close at Rs 30,670 per 10 grams whereas Brent Crude scored Rs 72 or 1.50 per cent to close at Rs 4,887 per bbl, at the end of the trading session.

Meanwhile, the banking sector closed positive for HDFC Bank, which secured 18.60 points or 0.89 per cent whereas Axis Bank and State Bank of India closed lower by 6.45 points or 1.25 per cent and 5.50 points or 2.06 per cent, respectively, at the time of filing the report.
