Summary

Summary of this article

  • EPFO launched an official WhatsApp channel for sending direct updates.

  • The channel offers one-way news, guides, and service videos.

  • This WhatsApp channel is different from WhatsApp helpline services.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had launched its WhatsApp channel in May 2026, which has grown to an 111,000 strong follower base as on September 15, 2026. While the channel remained in existence for nearly five months, it got noticed following EPFO’s post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on September 13, 2026.

The post read, “EPFO now on WhatsApp too! Join EPFO's official WhatsApp Channel to get important updates and useful information. Click on the link to join.”

Joining EPFO’s WhatsApp channel is similar to joining any other channel. This is an open channel, which means anyone, not necessarily an EPF subscriber, can join and follow the channel to receive the latest updates directly from EPFO itself.

How To Join The EPFO WhatsApp Channel

  • Open WhatsApp and click the ‘Updates’ tab.

  • Type EPFO in the search option.

  • Select the official EPFO channel by clicking on it.

Once followed, it will show in the Updates tab in the followed channel list. Follow it for the latest updates.

Information And Services One Can Access

The channel is aimed at disseminating information and updates directly to the users through their smartphones. But being a WhatsApp channel, it only facilitates one-way communication. Users cannot send messages or avail of EPFO’s services by following this channel.

This is essentially an informational channel where EPFO keeps posting its videos about how to avail of different services, submit a digital life certificate (DLC), how to contribute to EPF after rejoining service, how to activate a Universal Account Number (UAN), along with other such messages and videos.

WhatsApp Channel Or A WhatsApp-Based App

Users should not confuse EPFO’s WhatsApp channel with a mobile App, which Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya talked about in May this year. He said that WhatsApp-based EPFO services are part of the digital overhaul to make its services user-friendly. At that time, he said that subscribers will only need to type ‘Hello’ to the WhatsApp number of the EPFO to start a conversation with it in their preferred language and receive the reply on their mobile number.

In short, subscribers would be able to ask queries and get a reply on their WhatsApp. But the channel, which was the centre of EPFO’s posts on X, is simply a channel to disseminate information, not to handle individual subscribers’ queries.

EPFO does provide WhatsApp helpline numbers for its regional offices, which subscribers can use for asking queries or checking the status of their claims, among others.

Recently, EPFO has upgraded its IT systems by migrating to the Centralised IT-Enabled System, version 2.01 (CITES 2.01). During the migration phase, its employee and employer portals were down along with the UMANG app. These websites have been made available for use after around a week’s time; however, in a phased manner.
