The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) has launched two mobile apps for the elderly in India. These apps, Joint Elderly Empowerment & Virtual Assistance Network (JEEVAN) and Senior Holistic Care Assistance and Training For Your Utility (SHATAYU) is aimed at empowering senior citizens by providing them with healthcare access and enhancing their welfare, safety, and social inclusion.
The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar, launched these apps on May 22, 2026, as a dedicated digital platform for the elderly, to enable them to access safety and care through these apps.
JEEVAN App
The JEEVAN app will provide information about various government schemes, welfare programmes, support services, and emergency assistance. It will also provide the details of senior citizens' homes supported by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The platform, as per the government statement, is designed with a user-friendly interface and simple navigation, keeping in mind the elderly who may not be accustomed to using digital platforms or mobile apps.
SHATAYU APP
The SHATAYU app is a dashboard, which is aimed at strengthening care-giving services to the elderly in every part of India. The app will have the information about the geriatric caregivers in different districts and the state, and their availability for the needy senior citizens. Navigation on this App has also been kept simple, considering convenience for senior citizens.
Senior Citizen Welfare Portal (SCWP)
Notably, in the same month (May) of the previous year, on May 2, 2025, President Draupadi Murmu launched a digital portal for the elderly, named Senior Citizen Welfare Portal (SCWP).
This portal also offers senior citizens access to different government schemes and services on a single platform. The platform provides information about different government schemes for senior citizens, such as the Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens (IPSrC), National Helpline for Senior Citizens, Seniorcare Ageing Growth Engine (SAGE), Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, Senior Citizen Opportunities for Productive Engagement (SCOPE), among other schemes. One can also seek information related to Ayushman card, life certificate, pensioner’s portal, eSanjeevani medical advice, and state schemes.
