In separate announcements during last week, the Ministry of Finance issued the office order in this regard. According to its office order (OM) dated August 21, 2025, “the Government has decided that the salary/wages/pension of all Central Government employees in the State of Kerala may be drawn and disbursed by the Central Government offices (including Defence, Posts & Telecommunications) on 25-08-2025 (Monday).” 

It's another OM dated August 22, 2025, has been issued for salary and pension disbursal in Maharashtra. It reads, “In view of the ‘Ganapati’ festival, the Government has decided that the salary of all Central Government employees in the State of Maharashtra for the month of August 2025 may be drawn and disbursed by the Central Government offices (including Defence, Posts & Telecommunications) on August 26 2025 (Tuesday)." 

Onam In Kerala: Payment Disbursal By August 25, 2025

Onam is a 10-day festival that will start on August 26 and end on September 5, 2025.

The Government OM specifies that government employees’ salaries, pensions, and wages should be released by August 25, 2026. It directed the concerned Ministries and Departments to instruct their respective offices in Kerala to take the necessary action. 

Ganapati In Maharashtra: Payment Disbursal By August 26, 2025

Ganapati festival (Ganesh Chaturthi) is celebrated in Maharashtra. It is also a 10-day festival, and this year it will start on August 27, 2025. That is why the Government instructed the ministries and departments of the central Government to take action beforehand and disburse the salaries of central government employees one day earlier, on August 26, 2025.

For wages of industrial employees of the Government and payment to pensioners, the OM reads, “The wages for August 2025 of the industrial employees of the Central Government serving in the State of Maharashtra may also be disbursed in advance on August 26, 2025. The pension for August 2025 of all Central Government Pensioners in the State of Maharashtra may also be disbursed by Bank/PAOs on August 26, 2025.”


Salary, Wages, And Pension: Disbursal As Advance Payment

For both States, the OM clarifies that the early disbursal of salary, wages, and pension will be considered as an advance payment, and in case of any adjustment, it will be made against the payments for August. 

The OMs read, “The salary/wages/pension so disbursed is to be treated as advance payments and will be subject to adjustment after the full month’s salary/wages/pension of each employee/pensioner is determined. The adjustment, if any, will be made without exception from the salary/wages/ pension of the month of August 2025.”

The Government also directed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to notify all banks’ paying branches in the State to disburse the payments on time.
