Tangem wallet collected user seed phrases via email glitch
Tangem, a cryptocurrency wallet provider fixed a critical security vulnerability on its mobile app that collected certain users’ private keys through emails.
The correction was made following numerous complaints from Reddit users who accused Tangem of endangering investors' funds by revealing their private keys to email accounts and Tangem staff.
A Reddit discussion on Dec 29 on Tangem’s operations gained traction; It alleged that the wallet provider permitted private keys to be stored in email histories. The Reddit user, u/areklanga, mentioned that Tangem had not offered a 'reasonable response' when the problem was previously highlighted.
“So, user private keys remain in both user email history, Tangem email history, and perhaps in some Tangem ticket tracking system and are available for Tangen employees. Which makes all Tangem users compromized.”
They also claimed that the original Reddit post mentioning the glitch “was deleted for some reason.”
Tangem recognized the problem on December 30 and stated that the incident was caused by a bug in the log processing of the mobile app, which has been completely resolved.
