Summary of this article
MHADA plans Pune housing lottery by March 31.
Expected 3,000–5,000 affordable homes in upcoming draw.
Previous lottery saw overwhelming demand from buyers.
Sanjeev Jaiswal, CEO and vice president of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has shared important information about the upcoming lottery for affordable housing projects. It is expected to be rolled out by March 31, 2026. Though the number of homes to be listed in the scheme is yet to be revealed, it is expected to be around 3,000-5,000 units.
In the lottery held in February, a total of 4,000 units were allotted in Pune. The authority had received an overwhelming number of applications for a limited number of offerings in the previous lottery.
Strong Demand In Pune
MHADA has offered more than 25,000 affordable homes for sale in the past two-and-a-half years. The extensive response to the recent Pune lottery highlights the scale of demand across Maharashtra. Jaiswal said they had received more than 215,000 applications for just 4,186 homes.
He added that this demonstrated the trust, interest and desperation among aspiring homebuyers for affordable housing.
Officials have credited this demand to the transparent process that is practised while conducting these lotteries and schemes. Encouraged by the response, the Pune Board has now decided to continue the lottery series and open another opportunity for the aspiring homeowners, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
Effect on Homebuyers
This upcoming lottery in March provides a fresh opportunity for families who were unable to secure homes in the previous draw, where the demand had far exceeded the supply. MHADA’s continued effort to roll out housing schemes indicates the long-term strategy to increase the opportunities in the affordable housing inventory.
MHADA has advised homebuyers wanting to take part in the draw to track the updates shared by the authority to ensure a faster and safer approach to homebuying.
