Stock Market Today: The Sensex and the Nifty extended a losing streak for the fourth straight session on July 14, 2025. The Sensex closed at 82,253.46, down by 247.01 points or 0.30 per cent. On the other hand, the Nifty 50 closed the session at 25,082.30, down by 67.55 points or 0.27 per cent. The benchmarks reacted to escalating trade tensions between the US and its trading partners.

Earlier on July 11, US President Donald Trump announced his plans to impose tariffs on several countries. Notably, the tariffs are expected to come into effect from August 1. Other headwinds, such as selloffs in IT stocks also dragged the indices lower.

IT Stocks Lead Declines

Shares of domestic IT companies were among the top-drags among Nifty 50 stocks on July 14. Jio Financial Services emerged as the top-loser among the Nifty 50 stocks, as it closed 2 per cent lower at Rs 319.30 apiece on the NSE. On the other hand, shares of Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Infosys and HCL Technologies ended the session in the red, down by 1.72 per cent. Conversely, shares of Eternal, Titan and HDFC Life Insurance bucked the trend to close in the green, up by as much as 2.90 per cent on the NSE. The benchmark Nifty witnessed 22 advances and 27 declines on July 14.

Nifty IT and Nifty Oil & Gas Close Lower

The Nifty IT and the Nifty Oil & Gas emerged as the top losers among all sectoral indices, closing lower by 1.11 per cent and 0.03 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, the Nifty Pharma and the Nifty Realty index closed the session higher by 0.83 per cent and 1.39 per cent, respectively. The broader market indices bucked the trend amid the selloffs and closed in the green with the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 closing higher by 1.02 per cent and 0.7 per cent, respectively.

Global Markets on July 14

Asian indices finished the session mixed on July 14. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index closed in the red at 39,459.62, down by 110.06 points or 0.28 per cent. Elsewhere, the Hang Seng, the Shanghai Composite and KOSPI finished the session in the green, up by 0.26 per cent, 0.27 per cent and 0.82 per cent, respectively.

D-Street is expected to factor in the impact of the Q1FY26 financial results declared by various companies. Investors are also looking forward to any significant development related to trade tariffs and a potential trade deal between India and the US.
