Summary of this article
Banks will follow regular schedules in most cities this week.
Regional festivals will affect branch services on specific October dates.
UPI, ATMs and online banking offer holiday transaction options.
Banks across India are scheduled to operate on most days between October 12 and 18, even as Sharad Navratri festivities take place across the country. However, customers should check their local bank holiday calendar before visiting a branch, as closures depend on regional festivals and state-specific observances.
Only one bank holiday is scheduled during this week, on October 17, for Maha Saptami, in Agartala, Tripura. Customers of public and private sector banks, including State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Punjab National Bank (PNB), should plan branch-dependent transactions around applicable local holidays.
Bank Holiday Schedule From October 12 To 18
October 17, which falls on Saturday, is marked as Maha Saptami. Banks in Agartala will be closed for the festival, while branches in most other cities are scheduled to follow their regular working calendar during the week.
Bank holidays are determined by regional festivals and state-specific notifications. Therefore, a holiday in one city does not necessarily mean bank branches will be closed across the country. Customers planning cash deposits, cheque submissions, documentation or other in-person banking work should verify the schedule for their local branch.
Bank Holidays Across India Later In October
The second half of October has multiple regional bank holidays linked to Durga Puja, Dussehra and other festivals.

October 20: Banks in most major cities will observe a holiday for Dussehra or Vijaya Dashmi, with Gangtok and Imphal listed as exceptions.
October 21: Branches in Agartala, Bengaluru, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram will be closed for Vijaya Dasami or Durga Puja.
October 22 and 23: Banks in Gangtok will observe holidays for Durga Puja or Dasain.
October 26: Banks in Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar will be closed for Laxmi Puja, Accession Day or Maharishi Valmiki's Birthday.
October 29: Banks in Shimla will be closed for Karva Chauth.
October 31: Banks in Ahmedabad will observe a holiday for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Birthday.
Which Banking Services Will Be Available
Customers can generally use internet banking, mobile banking, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and ATMs during bank holidays for digital payments, fund transfers and cash withdrawals, subject to service availability.
The Reserve Bank of India's Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system operates 24 hours a day throughout the year, including bank holidays. However, services requiring a branch visit, physical documentation or in-person verification may have to wait until the relevant branch reopens.
